- 4 × 2x4 kiln-dried framing lumber, 8 ft

Tools
- Tape measure, pencil, speed square and a straightedge
- Circular saw or miter saw for square crosscuts
- Low-speed drill/driver with a T25 bit that, bit included, measures no more than 6 in from the bit tip to the back of the tool (a compact or right-angle driver; some screws are driven between close parts). The screws self-drill; no pilot holes
- Four or more bar clamps and a flat work surface
- Safety glasses and hearing protection
